´Moll Flanders ´was published on the 27th of January in 1722 by W.Chetwood and T. Edlin, although in the title page we see 1721. A second <<corrected >> edition appeared in july and a third at the end of the year. In 1723 a book seller sold a pirate texts of Defoe´s work. In total they were five editions in less than two years. There were two possible models of the main characters, two famous delinquents called: Mary Godson (Moll King) and Sarah Wells, alias Callico Sarah. Howson´s ideas was that Moll Flanders was based on a combination of the surnames of both women. Defoe choose the name of Moll because was a common name for delinquents and Flanders (because of the Low Countries) which was asociated with sex and prostitution.
